Dive into the world of thrilling quests and treacherous monsters
By Christopher Hardy

Monster Hunter is a long-time favorite series for many gamers and casuals. I recently started playing the new Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Wilds on Xbox. With my previous experience playing the last Monster Hunter game World I came into the game with high hopes and the game definitely lived up to my expectations.
Initial Problems
When I had first started playing the game, I had wanted to try playing with a few friends but the multiplayer feature was pretty difficult to understand at first. It took us a while to learn that we had to add each other to a link party and then when we could join each other’s missions. We were under the assumption that we would be able to play through the story missions at the same time which was a bit of a let down.
Story
I Found the story in the game to be very interesting, with all the different characters having different stances of their opinions of the monsters. In which created great dialogue between two or more characters really expanding on different moral views.
My Loadout
When I had initially started playing the game I had started with the same weapon that I used in the last game, the dual blades. The dual blades have to be my favorite weapon in the game attack-wise. Seeing my character move around like I’m in Attack on Titan had to be the best aspect of using this weapon. But for this game, I thought that I might as well try out one of the other weapons since the dual blades aren’t good for characters with harder skin. This led me to pick the switch axe, which is a very good weapon for taking out monsters with a high defense, though not as good as a hammer but a lot faster.
Tips
As you’re playing the game you might want to eat a meal before you go out on a quest. This is because by eating you can increase your stats like defense, attack, and health. This makes it a lot easier for you to beat monsters without being killed and losing coins.
Make sure to collect all the materials that you can when going out on expeditions since items like herbs and honey can be used to make health potions for when you fight large monsters that do a lot of damage. Other materials like bugs and other herbs can be used to create traps for when you might want to capture monsters in the future.

When you get to high rank I highly encourage you to start putting decorations on your armor and equipping talismans. This could be done by either visiting Gemma the Smithy or by entering your tent. By doing so you can increase your player stats like elemental resistance, attack power, and ailment resistance. In my experience, I found a talisman that gave poison resistance when I was fighting a monster that did poison damage.
As for leveling up your hunter rank for when you reach the high-rank missions. I found that the best way for you to rank up is by searching for high-rank SOS quests. This is because when you get there would already be 2 or more players fighting the monster and with the monster already low HP you can come in and help finish it off leading you to get the XP and ready for you to go on the new SOS quest.
Monster Field Guide
When you’re fighting a monster or before you fight you can always check the monster field guide and give a detailed description of the monster that you have defeated, sorted by large and strong. The guide tells you which points of the monster are its weaknesses and also if you could cut the tail for resources. It also tells you what type of element the monster uses and the best element to use against it. It also shows you the materials that they drop and how likely they are to drop it to warn you that you might need to beat the monster a few times before you’re able to get it.
Difficulty

For where I’m at in the game I personally didn’t find my experience to be that difficult so far. But that might be because I have experience from the previous Monster Hunter game. Even so, the game has an SOS feature that allows random players to join you if you have any difficulty trying to defeat a monster.
Is It Worth it?
I definitely believe that the game is worth every dime. I have found it enjoyable since the very first monster encounter. I’m pretty sure that I have found myself playing the game for hours without getting bored a single time. I highly recommend that you check this game out.
