Unraveling the mystery: ghost among us

Phasmophobia is a game where you hunt ghosts, spirits, demons, etc. I have found myself playing phasmophobia nearly all the time as of recently. This game has continually kept me on my toes whenever I play at night, given that I mainly play on the VR version of the game. In this post we will be Exploring all the different types of “ghosts” in this game, detailing the attributes of each and also how to classify them. By describing what evidence each ghost has along with the strength and weaknesses of each of the ghosts.

Spirit
Evidence: Ghost Writing, EMF Level 5, Spirit Box
Weaknesses: Smudge sticks are more effective, preventing a hunt for longer.
Wraith
Evidence: D.O.T.S Projector, Spirit Box
Strengths: Does not leave UV footprints after stepping in salt
Weaknesses: Will become more active if it steps in salt.
Phantom
Evidence: D.O.T.S Projector, Fingerprints, Spirit Box
Strengths: Looking at a Phantom will lower the player’s sanity considerably
Weaknesses: Taking a photo of the Phantom will cause it to briefly disappear.
Poltergeist
Evidence: Ghost Writing, Fingerprints, Spirit Box
Strengths: Capable of throwing multiple objects at once
Weaknesses: Becomes powerless with no throwables nearby.
Banshee
Evidence: D.O.T.S Projector, Ghost Orb, Fingerprints
Strengths: Will target only one player at a time
Weaknesses: Has a distinctive wail on the Parabolic Microphone.
Jinn
Evidence: EMF Level 5, Fingerprints, Freezing Temperatures
Strengths: Travels at faster speeds if its victim is far away
Weaknesses: Cannot use its ability if the site’s fuse box is off.
Mare
Evidence: Ghost Writing, Ghost Orb, Spirit Box
Strengths: Has an increased chance to attack in the dark
Weaknesses: Turning the lights on will reduce the chance of an attack.
Revenant
Evidence: Ghost Writing, Ghost Orb, freezing temperatures
Strengths: Can travel significantly faster if a player is spotted during a hunt
Weaknesses: Moves very slowly when not chasing a player.
Shade
Evidence: Ghost Writing, EMF Level 5, Freezing Temperatures
Strengths: Being shy makes it more difficult to locate and obtain evidence
Weaknesses: Less likely to hunt if multiple people are nearby.
Demon
Evidence: Ghost Writing, Fingerprints, Freezing Temperatures
Strengths: Can initiate hunts more often
Weaknesses: Crucifix effectiveness is increased to 5m against one.
Yurei
Evidence: D.O.T.S Projector, Ghost Orb, Freezing Temperatures
Strengths: Has a stronger effect on sanity
Weaknesses: Smudging the Yurei’s ghost room will reduce how often it wanders.
Oni
Evidence: D.O.T.S, EMF Level 5, Freezing Temperatures
Strengths: Increased activity and ghost events
Weaknesses: An Oni’s increased activity makes them easier to find
Yukai
Evidence: D.O.T.S Projector, Ghost Orb, Spirit Box
Strengths: Talking near the Yokai will anger it, increasing the chance to attack
Weaknesses: Can only hear voices close to it during a hunt.
Hantu
Evidence: Ghost Orb, Fingerprints, Freezing Temperatures
Strengths: Lower temperatures allow the Hantu to move faster
Weaknesses: Warmer areas slow the Hantu’s movement.
Goryo
Evidence: D.O.T.S Projector, EMF Level 5, Fingerprints
Strengths: Can only be seen interacting with D.O.T.S. through a camera when nobody is nearby
Weaknesses: Tends to wander away less from its ghost room
Myling
Evidence: Ghost Writing, EMF Level 5, Fingerprints
Strengths: Has quieter footsteps during a hunt
Weaknesses: Produces paranormal sounds more frequently.
Onryo
Evidence: Ghost Orb, Freezing Temperatures, Spirit Box
Strengths: A flame extinguishing can cause an Onryo to attack
Weaknesses: The presence of flames reduces the Onryo’s ability to attack.
The Twins
Evidence: EMF Level 5, Freezing Temperatures, Spirit Box
Strengths: Either Twin may start a hunt, though not at the same time
Weaknesses: Will often interact with the environment at the same time
Raiju
Evidence: D.O.T.S Projector, EMF Level 5, Ghost Orb
Strengths: Moves faster near electrical devices
Weaknesses: Disrupts electronic equipment from further away when it hunts.
Obake
Evidence: EMF Level 5, Ghost Orb, Fingerprints
Strengths: May leave fingerprints that disappear quicker
Weaknesses: Has a small chance of leaving six-fingered handprints
The Mimic
Evidence: Fingerprints, Freezing Temperatures, Spirit Box
Strengths: Can mimic the abilities and traits of other ghosts
Weaknesses: Will present Ghost Orbs as secondary evidence.
Morio
Evidence: Spirit Box, Ghost Writing, Freezing Temperatures
Strengths: The weaker their victims, the stranger the Moroi becomes
Weaknesses: Moroi suffer from hyperosmia, weakening them for more extended periods
Deogen
Evidence: Spirit Box, Ghost Writing, D.O.T.S Projector
Strengths: Deogen constantly senses the living. You can run but you can’t hide.
Weaknesses: Deogen requires a lot of energy to form and will move very slowly.
Thaye
Evidence: Ghost Orb, Ghost Writing, D.O.T.S Projector
Strengths: Upon entering the location, Thaye will become active, defensive, and agile
Weaknesses: Thaye will weaken over time, making them weaker, slower, and less aggressive
